The Model

We are not a developer. We are the owner.

Acton Energy develops, builds, owns and optimizes grid-scale battery storage in Europe, starting in Germany. As a next-generation independent power producer, we keep every asset we build and run it for the grid, every quarter hour.

Own · Operate · Optimize

Three roles, one balance sheet.

The German storage market splits its roles: developers sell, contractors build, traders optimize assets they do not own. We integrate all three, because the value compounds when they sit under one roof.

Own

We develop proprietary project rights and acquire projects from the market. What enters the portfolio stays in the portfolio: we do not flip projects. Ownership keeps every incentive long term, from site selection through the last operating year.

Operate

We take each project through construction, grid connection and commissioning, then operate it for the long term. Our two current builds, Lauta (40 MW) and Plettenberg (30 MW), follow exactly this path.

Optimize

We market each asset's flexibility across balancing reserves (FCR and aFRR), day-ahead and intraday arbitrage on quarter-hour products and further system services. Stacking these markets and shifting between them as prices move is how an owner earns more than a landlord.

The Market

Why flexibility is the third generation.

The first generation of power producers burned fuel. The second harvested wind and sun. The third produces flexibility: it stores surplus electricity and releases it when the grid needs it. The full argument is on our homepage; the numbers behind it are below.

9.4 TWh

of renewable electricity was curtailed in Germany in 2024. Wind and solar plants were switched off while the energy was needed elsewhere. Storage converts that surplus into supply.

100 GWh

of stationary battery storage is what Fraunhofer ISE estimates Germany needs by 2030, rising to around 180 GWh by 2045. Today's installed base covers only a fraction of that.

2037/2045

are the horizons of Germany's grid development plan. Its scenarios depend on large-scale flexibility to balance a renewable power system, with grid-scale batteries as a central option to provide it.

Growth

Four sourcing channels.

A portfolio is only as strong as its inflow. We source projects through four independent channels, so no single market condition can stall our growth. Exclusive framework agreements with established German project developers secure a predictable inflow of ready-to-build projects on top of our own development work.

Channel 01

Opportunistic acquisitions

We acquire projects and project rights where sellers need speed and certainty. That requires fast underwriting: we assess, decide and close quickly.

Channel 02

Proprietary large-scale development

Our own team develops large grid-scale sites from origination to ready-to-build status. Six proprietary projects totalling 960 MW are advancing today.

Channel 03

Decentralized storage deployment

Smaller, standardized storage units deployed close to demand and to distribution grids. Standardization keeps unit costs, permitting and timelines predictable and repeatable.

Channel 04

Industrial partnerships

We develop storage together with industrial energy users on their sites, combining value for the grid with value behind the meter.

Roadmap

Where the model is taking us.

  • 2025 · Foundation Company founded, team and sourcing channels established.
  • 2026 · Execution Lauta (40 MW) and Plettenberg (30 MW) in realization, six proprietary developments advancing.
  • 2027 · First operations First projects targeted to reach commercial operation.
  • 2029 · Scale Over 1 GW targeted in operation.

Targets, not promises.

The dates for 2027 and 2029 are targets and we treat them that way: openly stated, tracked and updated. Every project behind this roadmap is listed by name, location and size on our Projects page.
